October 14, 2009
I am happy to announce that the 2009-2010 St Joseph Regional High School Musical will be the Musical Comedy Whodunit - "CURTAINS". With music written by Kander and Ebb (composers of "Cabaret" and "Chicago") and book by Rupert Holmes ("Mystery of Edwin Drood"), this year's show promises to be another smash hit on the St Joe's stage. "CURTAINS" has many great roles, a very expandable chorus, wonderful music, a clever story line with many twists and a surprising ending. It's a new and fresh show, one that just became available and therefore has only been done by a few high schools. It will also be fresh to the audience as most people had not seen it on Broadway.
I realize many of you may not be familiar with this show. I encourage you to go to Lincoln Center Library and view (for free) the DVD of the original Broadway production of "Curtains". I am certain you will quickly fall in love with this show, just as I did when I first saw it on Broadway.
Auditions for "CURTAINS", will be on Oct 19th, 20th and 21st at either 6 PM or 7:30 PM in Room 115.
As the talent pool that comes to the St. Joe's Musical auditions seems to be getter better and better each year, I want you to be aware of some of the opportunities you have to prepare for the auditions:
- Special One Day Audition Workshop - Saturday Sept 12th from 9 AM to 3 PM conducted by Debra Kym(Stellar Adler Instructor) (registration fee - $75)
- Dance for Musical Theater and Tap For Beginners taught by Tammy Colucci - 10 sessions held on Thursday Evening from 6:30 to * PM Oct 8th (registration fee - $385)
- Private Voice Lessons with Ray McLeod ( “ Jykell& Hyde” ) and Rita Harvey ("Phantom of the Opera") weekdays from 3 to 8 PM and Saturdays from 9 AM to 4 PM ($65 per 45 minute session)
- (for my information on these programs and how to register go to www.sjrtheater.com)
I am very excited about the opportunity we have with "CURTAINS". I do not take choosing which musical to do at St. Joe's lightly. I take many things into consideration and feel the choice of "CURTAINS" is the right choice for this year at St. Joe's and one that will continue our tradition of having high quality, entertaining school musicals. I trust you will support this decision and help me in making this the best musical ever on the St. Joe's stage.
Spread the word about auditions, and I look forward to seeing you there. - John
